Which Startups Get Acquired? 🤔

Hello Startup Community!

Welcome to another edition of Startup Success Weekly with GACS! 🚀 Today, we’re taking a closer look at which startups are most likely to get acquired, based on their most recent funding stage. Spoiler: Series A startups seem to be leading the pack.

Key Insights:

  1. Series A Dominates: When we look at the data from the first half of every year since 2021, Series A startups have seen the most acquisitions across the board. So, if you’re at that stage, it might be a prime time to think about your long-term strategy.
  2. Pre-Priced Rounds: There’s also consistent acquisition activity in pre-priced rounds, which could signal acquihires or feature grabs. These are smaller deals but still significant for early-stage companies.
  3. M&A Activity on the Rise: From H1 2023 to H1 2024, mergers and acquisitions went up across most stages. This might be a positive sign for the rest of the year, especially as more companies open up to M&A discussions.
  4. Late-Stage Acquisitions: While they grab the headlines, late-stage acquisitions actually make up a small percentage of the overall market. So, don’t let the buzz fool you—most deals are happening earlier.

Who’s Doing the Buying?

From what we can gather, there seem to be three main groups leading the acquisitions:

  • Private Equity firms
  • Other startups
  • Big tech companies

Keep these trends in mind as you navigate your startup journey. And if you know of any solid data sources, feel free to share in the comments!

And as always, stay tuned for more insights and updates in the next edition of Startup Success Weekly with GACS!
